Camp Counselors | Department of Parks and Recreation

We are looking for Camp Counselors to supervise approximately 25 campers at Weston Field, ages 8-12 and make sure they learn and have fun from July 7, 2025 through August 1, 2025.

  • Follow the planned activities and work in tandem with the Scranton Police Department overseeing classroom and outdoor activities or sports.
  • Effectively developing a positive rapport with campers and parents
  • Encouraging campers to help support their social and emotional growth
  • Motivating campers with effective communication
  • Educate campers through games and explorations.
  • Escort and oversee children when they go off site for any activities.
  • Set up and maintain any equipment
  • Appropriately address student behavioral issues and other challenges that may arise in order to maintain a safe environment and a sense of calm in such situations
  • Knowing and adhering to site specific safety standards
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment and notifying the supervisor of any hazardous issues
  • Performing other projects, initiatives, and other duties as needed and assigned
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma (Bachelor’s degree Preferred)
  • Must be available all four weeks of camp
  • Proven experience as Camp Counselor, teacher, or similar role working with children.
  • Familiarity with summer camp activities, challenges.
  • Patient, reliable and flexible if weather impacts outdoor activities
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • A love for children
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow sports activities)
  • First aid- and CPR-certified preferred 
  • Complete Child abuse clearances and background checks
  • Reliable transportation
