DESCRIPTION:Friends of Shady Lane Cemetery\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation is dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of Shady Lane Cemetery\, located in South Abington Township\, Lackawanna County\, Pennsylvania. \n\n\n\nWe are hosting our 2nd Annual 5k Fundraiser and the start and finish with be at this location and the route will be on the Heritage Trail. Shady Lane has been without any owner maintenance since 2009. As of 2021\, roads in the cemetery had deteriorated\, trees had died\, and weeds were steadily swallowing the grave sites. The only maintenance was being provided by scattered family members doing their best to preserve their own plots. \n\n\n\nTo address the problem\, we recruit community volunteers and accept donations for this purpose. Local organizations\, businesses\, and individuals\, using their own equipment\, are investing sweat equity to honor those who came before us\, particularly the many veterans buried at the cemetery. \n\n\n\nWe are continuously trying to raise funds for the improvement and upkeep of the cemetery.
