The Highway Division is responsible for a multitude of tasks. They are responsible for maintenance of all city streets, bridges, avenues, courts and alleys, as well as snow removal from all city streets.

Spring Roadway Paving – Public Notice
The Department of Public Works releases its 2021 Spring Roadway Improvement Project for public review and awareness of proposed activity. This project activity has been advertised in the Scranton Times-Tribune legal section for public bidding. Construction proposals are due to be submitted to the City Controller’s office on March 3, 2021. Following a complete review of all submittals, a construction contract award will follow with the anticipated construction start date for April 19, 2021. The construction schedule is expected to continue until the end of May 2021 weather permitting.
While construction in underway, we ask for the public’s patience, cooperation and to maintain safe travel in the work zones.
New 2021 Street Sweeping Schedule
2021 Seasonal City Street Sweeping Operations will be on a Bi-weekly rotating basis during the recycling pickup schedule. Residents can expect Street Sweeping Operations in their neighborhoods on a rotating basis on the days their recycling products are collected weather permitting. If for some reason sections are not cleaned, it will be revisited the following week by the Operations Team.
We encourage the public to remove vehicles when possible on a rotating basis so the sweeping operations can be as effective as possible within each neighborhood. This activity will continuously rotate throughout the warmer months in an effort to keep city streets as clean as possible. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience while we conduct this city wide effort.
