SCRANTON, PA. – As part of its overall emergency preparedness strategies, the City of Scranton will test its flood protection systems and flood warning sirens on Friday, May 15, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until approximately 2 p.m.
The city will test emergency levee closure systems first. Closing the emergency flood walls will cause minor traffic disruptions at each location during testing. Drivers should anticipate temporary traffic delays at the following locations Friday morning:
- Parker Street bridge between Amelia Avenue and Carter Avenue;
- Sanderson Avenue bridge between Race Street and Detty Street;
- Albright Avenue bridge between Court Street and Meylert Avenue;
- Poplar Street bridge between Sanderson Avenue and 7th Avenue; and
- Olive Street bridge between Gordon Avenue and Love Road.
Siren testing on Shawnee Avenue and Middle Street will follow early Friday afternoon. The Shawnee flood siren is located near the intersection of Shawnee Avenue and Dean Street, and the Middle Street flood siren is located near Barring Avenue and the site of the Scranton Co-Op Farmers’ Market.
