SCRANTON, PA. – Scranton Mayor Paige G. Cognetti led a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thurs., Aug. 13, to commemorate the opening of Capouse Avenue Park, 1335 Capouse Ave., in the developing Pine Brook neighborhood. The transformation of the former Penn Ridge pool complex now includes new playground equipment with safe play surfaces and the city’s second splash pad, complementing an existing splash pad at Novembrino Park in West Scranton and outdoor pools across the City.
The Capouse Avenue Park project was funded entirely through the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Approximately $1.3 million in funds were allocated for the brand-new splash pad, and an additional $506,000 was used for additional development inside the park including new swings, slides, spinner seats, and more.
The Capouse splash pad is sure to become the park’s main attraction, with brightly colored spray and play features scattered across the rear of the park. Among the many features is a large water bucket that towers over the corner of the splash pad, multicolored hoops that children can walk beneath, and various other spray features.
The completion of Capouse Avenue Park continues the Cognetti administration’s commitment to developing and updating Scranton’s robust park system. Since 2021, the administration has invested nearly $26 million into parks, accessible play equipment, and outdoor pools that include restoration of the Connell Park pool and new zero-entry pools at Weston Field and Nay Aug Park.
