The Department of Public Works responsibilities are diverse and complex, covering all four seasons. The Department is comprised of the Highway Division, the Refuse Division, the Recycling Division, the Traffic Maintenance Division and the Fleet Maintenance Division. The Department of Public Works is responsible for the collection of all refuse and recycling.

If a holiday falls on a week day, all collections for refuse and recycling will be delayed by one day.


The Highway Division is responsible for a multitude of tasks. They are responsible for maintenance of all city streets, bridges, avenues, courts and alleys, as well as snow removal from all city streets.

Along with City Planning and Zoning, the DPW also supports the Stormwater Management Efforts in the city.
