Scranton Receives New Fire Truck at North Scranton Station

December 23, 2024

The lights and sirens in North Scranton on Mon., Dec. 16, 2024, weren’t for a fire engine leaving Engine 4 at 1047 North Main Avenue, but rather for the arrival of a new fire truck to serve Scranton residents.

“We continue to make investments to training and equipment across our public safety departments,” Scranton Mayor Paige G. Cognetti said. “This new ladder truck is an investment into the safety of our City and of our brave Scranton firefighters.”

The Scranton Fire Department (SFD) recently entered a lease-purchase agreement to acquire a new 2024 Sutphen custom ladder truck as the new Truck 4 stationed in North Scranton. The new truck cost $1,426,930.03 total and will be owned by the City at the end of an eight-year lease, per legislation approved by City Council on November 26. Costs will be paid through the SFD’s capital budget.

The SFD provided numerous details to Sutphen regarding unique departmental needs for Truck 4. The new apparatus replaces a 1994 ladder truck that will be placed into reserve status.

The purchase of Truck 4 continues the City’s historic investments into police and fire equipment, training, and safety. In a caucus before City Council last month, department chiefs agreed that capital spending for the police and fire department during the last four years far outpaces the investments made in the last 20.
