SCRANTON, PA. – More than $1.1 million in upgrades have been completed at the City of Scranton’s second largest park, including new additions that are sure to make a splash. Officials including Mayor Paige G. Cognetti celebrated Robinson Park’s new playground equipment, accessible parking and amenities, and a new fishing dock and kayak launch with a ribbon cutting on Mon., April 28, 2025.
“Our investment across Scranton’s park system is part of our commitment to our neighborhoods,” Mayor Cognetti said. “We are proud of the partnership with the East Mountain Neighborhood Association to shape these improvements and look forward to folks enjoying these amenities.”
Robinson Park, 98 Mountain Lake Rd., Scranton, is second only to Nay Aug Park in terms of its size at 30.42 acres. The park is divided by Mountain Lake Road, with new bright green play equipment, refurbished multipurpose courts, and a newly paved one-eighth-mile walking path on one side.
Across from the new playground sits Mountain Lake, which is the only lake contained in a City park. The 2021 Parks Needs Assessment and Master Plan recommended improved access to the lake. The City fulfilled that suggestion by installing an accessible fishing dock at one end of Mountain Lake and a kayak launch at the other in mid-April. Beneath all these efforts, the City has also improved stormwater management systems to prevent drainage issues at Robinson.
The site has already risen in popularity with residents rushing to be among the first to use the new kayak launch and to join a neighborhood Bunny Hunt during the Easter holiday weekend.
Renovations at Robinson Park were funded through a $481,600 Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) Bureau of Recreation and Conservation awarded in September 2022. An additional $502,884.50 in Scranton’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and $141,078.06 in City funds served as grant matches.
