SCRANTON, PA. – The City of Scranton will extend its current contract agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police E.B. Jermyn Lodge No. 2 representing the Scranton Police Department (SPD) through Dec. 31, 2028. The current contract agreement was set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026.
“The men and women of the Scranton Police Department are our region’s best. They serve our community selflessly, and they deserve to be compensated fairly,” Mayor Paige G. Cognetti said. “We will always invest in public safety in Scranton and in the individuals who make our quality of life possible.”
Per legislation to be introduced by Scranton City Council at its Sept. 22, 2026, meeting, the City will extend the current SPD union contract for two years, now ending Dec. 31, 2028. The Memorandum of Agreement was approved by the union following a vote, according to supporting documents.
The contract extension calls for base wage increases of 5% in both 2027 and 2028.
This successful contract extension marks the third successful contract agreement this year between the City and the unions representing its workers. A contract agreement was formalized in March with the union covering Department of Public Works (DPW) employees, Local Lodge 2305 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO through Dec. 31, 2029. In June, Local Union No. 60 of the International Association of Firefighters, AFL-CIO (IAFF Local 60) representing the Scranton Fire Department agreed to a contract extension through Dec. 31, 2028.
The City also entered into a contract in July 2024 with the City of Scranton Clerical Workers and Local Lodge No. 2462 through Dec. 31, 2027. Finally, the City entered a contract in November 2023 with the Scranton Single Tax Office and representatives of Local Lodge No. 2462 through December 31, 2027.
