Program Recognizes Well-Kept Properties, with Assistance from Gerrity’s Supermarket

SCRANTON, PA. – Mayor Paige G. Cognetti launched the City of Scranton’s Good Neighbor program Wednesday by visiting South Scranton homeowners nominated for recognition. With support from Gerrity’s Supermarket, the Good Neighbor program recognizes homeowners who contribute to the beauty and safety of the City by maintaining their properties.

“This program helps us highlight the homeowners who add to our city’s quality of life by maintaining their homes,” Mayor Cognetti said. “With help from Gerrity’s, we’re excited to launch this program and say thank you to our friends and neighbors who take great pride in their homes and our neighborhoods.”

“As both a resident and business owner in Scranton, I’m proud to celebrate our neighbors who take pride in their homes and neighborhoods. Their efforts are a big part of what makes our hometown such a vibrant and welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Joe Fasula, co-owner of Gerrity’s Supermarkets and Gerrity’s Ace Hardware.

Through the Good Neighbor program, the City’s Code Enforcement inspectors can nominate vibrant and well-maintained homes in neighborhoods across Scranton. To qualify, homeowners must also be up to date on their taxes, rental registration fees, and refuse fees, with no outstanding code violations.

City code inspectors will be placing door tags on approximately 100 homes in the coming weeks. Those bright pink door hangers include instructions on how to obtain a $50 gift card for Gerrity’s with their proof of residence.

The program is made possible through a $5,000 donation from Gerrity’s Supermarket, which has three locations in Scranton.
