City of Scranton Plans Second Electronics Recycling Event of 2025

November 5, 2025

SCRANTON, PA. – In an ongoing effort to improve recycling services for residents, the City of Scranton will host its second electronics recycling event of 2025 on Sun., Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Department of Public Works headquarters, 101 W. Poplar St., Scranton. Registration is open now at www.scrantonpa.gov/recycling.

“When we work together to recycle properly, we can keep contaminants and other harmful materials from entering our environment,” Scranton Mayor Paige G. Cognetti said. “Whether it’s properly recycling an old television, plastic bottles, or paper and cardboard, our residents have more resources to keep the wrong items out of our local landfills.”

Scranton held its first electronics recycling event of 2025 in mid-May at Scranton High School, collecting over five tons of e-waste.

At the November 16 event, the City will accept the following items at no cost to residents:

  • CRT televisions and computer monitors;
  • Desktop computers;
  • Flat screen televisions and computer monitors;
  • Laptop computers; and
  • Peripheral computer devices including printers with all ink, toner cartridges, and paper removed; mice; and keyboards.

Hosting two electronics recycling events in a single calendar year is just one way the City is helping residents recycle more frequently and efficiently. The City now allows combined biweekly paper and cardboard pickup and increased the types of plastic accepted through a new recycling processing contract with Waste Management. In the four months since that new contract was enacted, residents have recycled 60 more tons of cardboard and paper compared to collection rates in the same four-month period of 2024.

Residents with questions about recycling services may email Scranton Recycling and Safety Coordinator Chris McClatchy at recycle@scrantonpa.gov.
