City Council Meeting Recap – February 11, 2024

At its regular meeting on Tues., Feb. 11, 2025, Scranton City Council:

  1. Held a pre-meeting caucus with administration officials regarding Rubicon. Video of the caucus session is available online through the ECTV YouTube channel.
  2. Introduced an ordinance to approve and authorize easements necessary to complete the East Mountain stormwater and drainage improvement project. The ordinance was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
  3. Introduced a resolution to purchase a property at the southwest corner of the intersection of Albright Avenue and Marion Street from UGI for $1 to implement a new dog park. The resolution was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
  4. Advanced an ordinance to increase the compensation for crossing guards from $20 to $30 per day, effective Jan. 1, 2025. The City and Scranton School District equally share the cost for crossing guards. The ordinance was advanced by a vote of 5-0.
  5. Approved an ordinance to approve and authorize easements necessary to complete the Meadow Brood flood protection project. The ordinance was approved by a vote of 5-0.
  6. Approved a resolution to permit the Scranton-Lackawanna Health and Welfare Authority to undertake a project for the University of Scranton, issuing bonds of up to $65 million to provide financing for the University’s new workforce development, applied research, and public outreach facility. The resolution was approved by a vote of 4-1, with Councilmembers Gerald Smurl, Mark McAndrew, William F. King, and Dr. Jessica Rothchild in favor and Councilmember Thomas Schuster opposed.

Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tues., Feb. 18, 2025.
