At its regular meeting on Tues., Oct. 22, 2024, Scranton City Council:
- Held a pre-meeting caucus with Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator John Judge along with representatives of Fitch & Associates and Dr. Kirk S. Hinkley regarding the emergency medical services feasibility study. Video of the caucus is available online through the ECTV YouTube Channel.
- Introduced an ordinance to donate a 2015 Ford Taurus Interceptor former patrol vehicle to the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County (CTCLC). The vehicle is not longer of use to the Scranton Police Department. It will be restored by CTCLC students through their automotive departments and later used in its Protective Services Program that trains future first responders. The ordinance was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
- Introduced a resolution to obligate $40,830.57 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the purchase and installation of street cameras in Qualified Census Tract (QCT) areas, specifically in the area of Connell Park. The resolution was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
- Introduced a resolution to obligate $99,732.50 in ARPA funds for engineering, design, and construction services for the Weston Field skate park. The resolution was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
- Introduced a resolution to obligate $1,082,536.54 in ARPA funds for splash pad equipment and other enhancements to the Capouse Avenue Park. The resolution was introduced by a vote of 5-0.
- Adopted an amended resolution to apply for a Local Share Account (LSA) statewide grant for up to $350,000 to be used towards the City’s pre-design, design, and construction oversight of Engine 10. Council approved an amendment to designate that “the funding will be used to modernize and improve the fire station’s infrastructure at or near its current location on the East Mountain, ensuring it meets current safety standards and operations needs to better serve the community.” The resolution was adopted as amended by a vote of 5-0.
