The City of Scranton will close Theodore Street between Ralph and Return Avenues, effective 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024. The road closure follows a previous westbound lane closure between Ralph and Return Avenues that went into effect on Feb. 23.
Concerns about the bridge superstructure were raised by the City in the summer of 2023, resulting in work on the bridge the following September. The City and PennDOT have maintained contact with Norfolk Southern and the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission with ongoing concerns.
As a result of the road closure, the following detours will be in place:
From North Main Avenue along Theodore Street: Turn right onto Ralph Avenue, left onto Ferdinand Street, and right onto Brick Avenue until you reach Oak Street.
From Keyser Avenue along Theodore Street: Turn right onto Return Avenue, left onto Clearview Street, right onto Euclid Avenue, and left onto Court Street to reach Main Avenue.
The length of time needed for repairs to the bridge over Theodore Street is unclear at this time.
