City of Scranton Opens Veterans’ Grants Applications Through April 19

The City of Scranton is announcing a total of $85,000 in grants available to nonprofit organizations located within the City that serve veterans and their families. Applications are due by Friday, April 19, 2024, and groups can apply online through OpenGov at https://bit.ly/scrantonveterans2024.

“Each year we look forward to helping our local nonprofits serve our veteran community,” said Mayor Paige G. Cognetti. “We hope these funds help close existing service gaps in Scranton.”

“We are always happy to assist our veterans and veteran families anyway we can,” added City Council President Gerald Smurl. “I hope the City of Scranton will keep this grant money in our budget for many years to come.”

Grants are available for programming including supportive services, homelessness prevention, mental health services, addiction recovery, financial assistance, home rehabilitation, and more.

Applicants must be a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(19), or 501(c)(23) that serves veterans and their families in the City. Groups will also need to demonstrate financial management and programmatic expertise, along with documenting all service or program expenses.

Funding decisions will be made by a committee to include representation of veterans. Programs may be funded in part or in full based on available funds, with priority given to applicants that demonstrate how programs will prioritize and support low-income veterans. All funds must be used by December 31, 2024.
