The City of Scranton will receive a total of $531,086 from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) for improvements at Connell Park, 800 Gibbons St., Scranton.
The first grant, a Park Rehabilitation and Development grant for $149,492, will provide assistance for:
- the addition of a wellness loop trail;
- playground maintenance and updates;
- upgrades to the Connell dog park;
- concession stand renovations;
- incorporation of green infrastructure;
- improvements to ensure accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); and
- selection demolition supported by matching Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
CDBG funds totaling $149,492 will serve as a grant match.
The second grant, a DCNR Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) grant for $381,594, will support additional rehabilitation and development of Connell Park. CDBG funds totaling $381,594 will serve as a grant match.The total project cost, including grant and matching funding, will be $1,062,172.
