SCRANTON, PA. – A major addition to the City of Scranton’s outdoor pool facilities was celebrated Wed., June 25, as Mayor Paige G. Cognetti cut the ribbon at the brand-new Weston Field pool at 982 Providence Rd., Scranton. Outdoor facilities across the City opened June 14, and the new Weston Field attraction held a soft opening on Sun., June 22.
“The Weston Field pool offers a new swimming option for families and greater accessibility so that it can be enjoyed by more of our residents,” Mayor Cognetti said. “We’re grateful for the work with our partners and the funding that made this possible.”
The Weston Field pool project included the removal of a deteriorating structure along Providence Road and the construction of two new buildings, outdoor shower facilities, water play features, and a retractable shade structure over part of the City’s first zero-entry pool. Just over $3.6 million of the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds were allocated for the project.
Scranton’s other outdoor pools at Connell Park, 800 Gibbons St., and Weston Park, 127 Spring St., opened mid-June, along with the splash pad at Novembrino Park, 200 10th Ave. Outdoor pools, including Weston Field, are open daily from noon to 6 p.m. through Labor Day. The indoor pool at Weston Field, 982 Providence Rd., is open year-round weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for adult swim and from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for the general public.
Development continues on a new splash pad at Capouse Avenue Park, 1300 Capouse Ave., and the new pool complex at Nay Aug Park, 500 Arthur Ave.
