Traffic Safety Improvements in West Scranton

October 14, 2026

The City of Scranton is reviewing proposed traffic pattern changes along Euclid Avenue, Dorothy Street, and Farr Street in the Tripp Park neighborhood.

Following concerns raised by area residents regarding traffic flow, roadway safety, and on-street parking, the City requested that Reilly Associates conduct a traffic study to evaluate existing conditions and recommend potential improvements.

The study identified opportunities to improve traffic circulation, address visibility concerns, and maintain neighborhood parking while accommodating access to Isaac Tripp Elementary School and surrounding properties.

Residents from Euclid, Dorothy, and Farr are invited to share their input on proposed safety enhancements at the upcoming Public Hearing on October 20, 2026 at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers.

Proposed Traffic Pattern Changes

Based on the findings of the traffic study, the following changes have been recommended:

  • Euclid Avenue
    • Convert to one-way traffic from North Main Avenue toward Dorothy Street.
    • Restrict vehicles from exiting Euclid Avenue directly onto North Main Avenue.
  • Dorothy Street
    • Convert to one-way westbound traffic from Euclid Avenue to North Everett Avenue.
    • Maintain on-street parking on both sides.
  • Farr Street
    • Convert to one-way eastbound traffic from North Everett Avenue to North Main Avenue.
    • Maintain on-street parking on both sides, with limited restrictions near North Everett Avenue.

Additional improvements are recommended along North Everett Avenue, including localized parking restrictions and roadway adjustments to accommodate truck access.

The proposed traffic patterns are subject to review and are not shown as implemented changes.

Why Are These Changes Being Considered?

The traffic study identified several factors contributing to the recommended changes:

  • Visibility and Safety
    • Limited visibility at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and North Main Avenue creates challenges for drivers entering North Main Avenue. Converting this section of Euclid Avenue to one-way traffic would eliminate these movements.
  • Traffic Flow and Parking
    • Dorothy Street and Farr Street currently accommodate two-way traffic with parking on both sides. In several locations, the roadway width makes it difficult for opposing vehicles to pass safely.
    • The proposed one-way patterns would provide a more consistent travel lane while preserving most existing on-street parking.
  • School and Neighborhood Access
    • The study also evaluated traffic circulation near Isaac Tripp Elementary School and access for nearby businesses.
