SCRANTON, PA. – Scranton Mayor Paige G. Cognetti celebrated another milestone in the ongoing redevelopment of city parks on Wed., July 30, with a ribbon cutting at the recently upgraded Weston Park, 127 Spring St., Scranton.
“The Weston Park pool is obviously an attraction during the summer, and we hope the improvements we’re celebrating today make Weston a place that neighbors can enjoy all year,” Mayor Cognetti said. “From play to everyday exercise, we are committed to building public spaces that are accessible to everyone.”
The Weston Park project was funded through a $198,000 Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and matching Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, for a total cost of approximately $396,000.
Recently completed upgrades include a wellness loop that generates greater connectivity between park assets, new playground equipment, and overall improved accessibility. The 10-acre park in North Scranton also includes one of Scranton’s three outdoor pools and a baseball field.
Weston Park is the latest City attraction to be improved through an overall total of $26 million invested during Mayor Cognetti’s administration.
