November 6, 2025

“On behalf of the City of Scranton, I extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Mayor David Wenzel’s wife, Janet, to his family, and to all who had the privilege of calling Scranton’s 27th mayor a friend.

“Scranton lost a heroic war veteran, a dedicated public servant, and a lifelong champion for our country, our city, and for decency in public service. His legacy is one of resilience, a positive vision for the city, and an enduring impact on community service, particularly in the areas of accessibility and the environment.

“We will remember Mayor Wenzel not just for his political achievements, but for his passion, kind and gracious nature, and the ability to make everyone feel heard and valued. He refused to accept societal limitations, showing us all how to live life to the fullest.

“We will miss Mayor Wenzel dearly and are grateful he shared his light and his life with our community.”
