SCRANTON, PA. – Mayor Paige G. Cognetti officially launched the summer swimming season in Scranton with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the recently refurbished Connell Park pool, 800 Gibbons St., Scranton. The Connell Park attraction is one of several outdoor pool facilities in Scranton open to the public beginning Sat., June 14, 2025.
“Our outdoor pools are important pieces of our parks system, and we’re proud of the investments we have made in pools throughout the city,” Mayor Cognetti said. “The crews working at Connell and other City parks battled a long winter and a very rainy spring to help us open these pools in time for summer break.”
Connell Park’s pool was completed restored after the need for critical repairs was discovered before the summer of 2024. The City allocated $1,151,767.83 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to bring new life to the South Scranton destination.
Beginning Saturday and continuing daily from noon to 6 p.m. through Labor Day, outdoor pools and splash pads will be open at Connell Park; Novembrino Park, 200 10th Ave.; and Weston Park, 127 Spring St. The indoor pool at Weston Field, 982 Providence Rd., is open year-round weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for adult swim and from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for the general public. Work continues on the brand-new outdoor pool at Weston Field, with an opening planned as soon as possible.
In addition to pools planned to open for 2025, the City continues development on a new splash pad at Capouse Avenue Park, 1300 Capouse Ave., and the new pool complex at Nay Aug Park, 500 Arthur Ave.
Throughout Mayor Cognetti’s administration, she has invested more than $26 million into Scranton’s parks, including pools, accessible play equipment, soft play surfaces, dog parks, a cricket pitch, and more.
