At its regular meeting on Tues., Feb. 18, 2025, Scranton City Council:
- Introduced an ordinance to approve and authorize easements necessary to complete the Keyser Valley flood protection project. The ordinance was introduced by a vote of 4-0, with Councilmembers Gerald Smurl, Mark McAndrew, William F. King, and Thomas Schuster in favor and Councilmember Dr. Jessica Rothchild absent.
- Introduced and then tabled a resolution to appoint the City’s Business Administrator to the position of Chief Administrative Officer of its police, fire, and non-uniformed pension plans. The resolution was introduced and tabled by a vote of 4-0.
- Introduced a resolution to approve the execution and submission of a grant reimbursement agreement between the City and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for approximately $1,110,200 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund grant for the replacement of the Ash Street Bridge. The resolution was introduced by a vote of 4-0.
- Advanced an ordinance to approve and authorize easements necessary to complete the East Mountain stormwater and drainage improvement project. The ordinance was advanced by a vote of 4-0.
- Approved an ordinance to increase the compensation for crossing guards from $20 to $30 per day, effective Jan. 1, 2025. The City and Scranton School District equally share the cost for crossing guards. The ordinance was approved by a vote of 4-0.
- Approved a resolution to purchase a property at the southwest corner of the intersection of Albright Avenue and Marion Street from UGI for $1 to implement a new dog park. The resolution was approved by a vote of 4-0.
Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tues., Feb. 25, 2025.
